After severe storms swept through Baxter Springs, Kansas, the Ridgeline Roofing & Solar team was on-site early to inspect storm damage across several commercial rooftops—including the local police station. Our crews were called out at 4 AM to assess the situation and begin immediate planning for repairs.
The police station’s roof, which we had previously coated with silicone, held up impressively under the extreme weather. Silicone coatings are a smart investment for long-term protection, providing flexibility and weather resistance even when storms hit hard.
Unfortunately, not every building fared as well. A neighboring structure suffered significant roofing failure, exposing wood decking due to improper installation. The failing roof system—a torch down application—wasn’t secured adequately along the eaves. Once wind caught the edges, it peeled large sections back, leaving the interior vulnerable to water damage.
As Tim Yates noted in his inspection, quality installation matters as much as the materials used. On the police station, a hot mop system was layered with a modified cap sheet, resulting in a much more durable surface.
This visit was personal for Tim, too. Just a few buildings away, his great-grandfather once ran a grocery store, giving back to the community even during the Great Depression. It’s a legacy of service and resilience we strive to continue through our work.

"Good morning. Tim Yates, Ridgeline Roofing and Solar. We're over here in Baxter Springs this morning on the police station. After last night storms, we got a call at 4AM, letting us know that there's some damage over here. You can see a little bit of parapet damage on this one.
It actually didn't fare too bad. We coated this roof a few years ago with silicone, and, it, weathered the storm pretty well. If you look back over my left shoulder, all that wood on this neighboring roof shouldn't be exposed, and it really kinda goes back to how your roof is is installed. So the one over here on the police station is a is a complete hot mop system. So I actually went over the hot, the hot tar with the modified cap sheet.
And this one over here appears to be more of a torque down torch down. Sorry. It's cold out here. Torch down application. And you can see what happened there.
So once it catches the wind catches it, right on the eve there, it just starts peeling it back and continues to spill it all off. So, we're gonna get some stuff ordered and, try to warm up a little bit. Everyone have a great rest of your weekend. Thank you."
