Hail, Heat, and Hidden Mistakes: Roof Inspection Reveals Big Problems in Sullivan, MO

When Sullivan homeowners search online for roofing contractors near me they hope to find experts who can spot damage before it ruins the structure. During a recent roof inspection in Sullivan, Missouri, Ridgeline Roofing & Solar uncovered three major threats to this sixteen-year-old shingle system:

  1. Severe condensation
Poor ventilation has warped the decking, leaving noticeable dips that invite leaks and mold.
  2. Improper nailing
Many shingles were nailed above the manufacturer’s half-inch nail line. The result is loose tabs that uplift in every wind gust and shorten roof life.
  3. Hail and granule loss
Recent storms stripped protective granules, exposing the asphalt mat to UV damage and accelerating deterioration. Nail pops and algae streaks add to the risk.

Why inspections matter after every storm

Even small hail knocks granules loose, while hidden condensation warps decking from the underside. A professional inspection catches problems early, offers accurate roof repair near me estimates, and prevents surprise roof replacement cost later.

"Hey. It's Tim Yates with Ridgeline Roofing and Solar.
I'm in Sullivan, Missouri today with Roy and Michael, part of team Womack.
We are inspecting this roof, and it's got some stuff going on.

The first thing we've got issues with is condensation.
I don't know if you can see the dips in the decking on this, but they're substantial.
Obviously, this roof isn't ventilating correctly, and it's a shame because it's going to take a lot of decking to fix that.
This is why you want to hire a roofer.

This is how this roof was nailed.
It's supposed to be nailed right here.
You've got about a half inch of a nail line, and this roof was actually nailed up at the packing line.
That packing line is there so the shingles don't stick to themselves in the backing.
Somebody nailed this that high, and this whole side is super loose.

You can just pull it up.
This is probably a sixteen- to eighteen-year-old roof, but they used synthetic felt on it back then.
So they actually spent a little money on material — you didn't see that every day back then.
But this roof has a lot of algae on it.

You can see the algae — the dark spots.
You can see the dips in the decking here.
If you look down the roofline, maybe you can see it a little better.
They're pretty big dips.
It's got a lot of granules.

This roof has had hail recently, and it's got a whole lot of granule loss.
That's what happens when it hails on a roof.
Even small hail will knock granules off and shorten the life of your roof.
Big hail obviously hits roofs harder and can damage the matting or even put holes in the roof.

That’s why it's always important to get your roof inspected after a storm, just to make sure everything’s good.

That's about all I’ve got.
We’ve got some nail pops here and there poking through.
You can see on that side where somebody’s done a repair recently.
I’ll just leave that alone.
But if you need assistance with your roof — residential or commercial — please give us a call.

Thank you."
