In Sullivan, Missouri, Ridgeline Roofing & Solar is wrapping up a 300-square roof replacement at a residential care facility—upgrading aging architectural shingles to the high-performance Tamko Titan XT in Thunderstorm Gray. With durability, curb appeal, and ventilation upgrades all rolled into one, this project reflects exactly why Ridgeline is trusted for both residential roofing and commercial roofing projects across the Four-State area.
Why This Roof Needed More Than Just New Shingles
The original green architectural shingle roof had seen better days. Although popular years ago, green is now more often removed than requested. After removing the old shingles, several issues became clear:
- Ventilation Failure: The existing ridge vent system was not performing well due to the layout of the roof. Poor ventilation traps heat and moisture, shortening shingle life and warping decking.
- Decking Repairs: Soft spots in the OSB required removal and replacement to ensure a flat, secure base for the new roofing system.
- Aging Underlayment: The home had piecemeal repairs over the years but lacked consistent protection from ice and snow.
Our Solution: Built for Performance and Longevity
To ensure lasting protection and peace of mind for the residents and staff, the Ridgeline crew installed:
- Two rows of ice & water barrier across all eaves and valleys for extra winter protection
- New felt underlayment and upgraded drip edge
- Tamko Titan XT shingles in Thunderstorm Gray for maximum wind uplift resistance and striking appearance
- Box vents to replace the non-performing ridge vent system, enhancing attic airflow
- Selective OSB replacement for a solid, rot-free foundation
This isn’t just another roof, it’s a long-term asset for a facility that depends on reliability and protection year-round.

Video Transcript: "Hey, it's Tim Yates, Ridgeline Roofing and Solar. We're working in Sullivan, Missouri. It's a Monday and it's been a long one so far. So we got the drone out. We're just having a little fun. So you can see the roof that we're working on. It's a residential care facility. And we tore off a standard size architectural shingle. Let me show you what it looks like over here. Green. Green was pretty common back in the day.
I mean, we didn't do a ton of it, but did a lot more of it back then than we do now for sure. If you have the right house, then maybe green is the answer for you. But we don't do it every day. And we definitely take more of it often than we put on. So you can see some of the repairs that they've had done over time. It's got a ridge vent running down everywhere.
Due to the way this roof set up, that ridge vent's not really working that great. So we are going to take all that out, put box vents everywhere. This roof's going to get, see this ice and water barrier right here.
So we actually do on these roofs we do two rows of ice and water barrier over
the eaves. So if you get ice and snow then you don't have as high of a risk of
penetrating and causing leaks. Some of the guys working there you can see the new felt,
new ice and water, the valleys get ice and water barrier as well so I'm not very good at running this thing today. And then the new shingle that we're putting on here is a
thunderstorm gray, TANCO Titan XT and we do a lot of these for this customer in this color and it really does look good. It comes out really nice. So new drip edge, new felt, ice and water barrier and then we're going to be getting rid of all that ridge vent and doing box vents on the thing. So it's about 300 square.
It's a good size roof. We've had to replace some of the OSB just to make sure that everything was nice and flat and not rotting. So other than that, we found a dump that's pretty close too. So that's always a plus. So that's about all I got. So if you guys have any questions or need anything or want to talk about roofs, give us a go. Thanks.
Thank you."
