It’s that time of year again—chili season is upon us, and Ridgeline Roofing and Solar is thrilled to announce the Second Annual Chili Cook-Off! This exciting event, happening on Friday, October 25th, 2024, will benefit the Joplin Humane Society, a local organization dedicated to supporting our furry friends. Whether you’re a chili connoisseur or a first-time taster, this event promises fun, competition, and delicious homemade chili, all for a great cause.
Contestants can enter for just $20, while tasters and judges contribute $10 to sample and vote for the best chili. With 1st place winning $500 and a trophy, the heat will be on! Special guests from Ami Radio’s 96.9 KKOW will join us for the festivities. Your $10 entry fee or pet supply donation will go directly to helping the Joplin Humane Society. CHILI SETUP
- Homemade chili to be ready by 11:00 AM.
- Tables (not tents) set up at 10:00 AM, with access to electricity.
HEAT INDEX CARDS
- Chili heat levels will be displayed using cards with chili peppers/icons (e.g., mild = 0 peppers, super hot = a fire sign).
- Cards can be 4×6 inches with checkboxes to indicate heat levels.
PRIZES
- 1st place: $500 and a trophy.
- 2nd place: $250 and a trophy.
- 3rd place: $100 and a trophy.
SPECIAL GUESTS
Ami Radio (96.9 The KKOW ) will be present with hosts Howie and Bubba.
Joplin Humane Society will be present as well.
BENEFICIARY
The event will benefit the Joplin Humane Society. A $10 tasting fee or an equivalent donation (e.g., a bag of dog/cat food) is suggested.
ENTRY FEES
- Contestants: $20
- Tasters/Judges: $10
JUDGING
Judges receive tickets to mark their top chili choice after tasting all entries. We suggest judges taste all chili entries to make an informed decision. Scorecards at each booth will indicate heat level and allow tasters to score the chili. Judges then place their scorecards into a box for tallying.
HOW IT WORKS
- Attendees who want to taste will receive a ticket upon payment, which can double as their voting ticket.
- Tickets for tasting and judging will be pre-printed or provided from existing rolls.
- Table and electricity will be available.
ENTRY FEES
Entry donations can be made in the form of cash, check, or pet supplies (such as food, litter, etc.) with a value that meets the minimum entry amount. You can drop off your donation at Ridgeline Roofing and Solar between Monday and Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM.
RULES
- Must be present to win if you’re submitting chili.
- If entering as a contestant, then you can’t judge. But you’re welcome to purchase a ticket to taste them all!
- Must be set up no earlier than 10:00a.m., no later than 11:00a.m.. We will provide tables and electricity for your crockpot.
- We provide taster cups and spoons, but please provide your own ladle to dish out your chili.
- If judging, please taste all chili entries and then submit your vote with the ticket provided. Please be advised some chili entries might be spicy!
- Votes will be tallied and winners announced at 1:00p.m.
- All proceeds and donations will go directly to the Joplin Humane Society.
