When Acrylic Coatings Fail: Roof Inspection & Repair in Joplin, MO

At Ridgeline Roofing and Solar, we don’t believe in one-size-fits-all solutions—especially when it comes to your roof. This week in Joplin, Missouri, we performed a detailed inspection on a metal R-panel roof located at 13th and Schifferdecker.

The roof in question had previously been coated with closed-cell foam and an acrylic finish. While that may sound like a solid option, what we discovered told a different story. Water was penetrating through small holes in the acrylic coating and becoming trapped under the surface, causing the metal panels to rust from the inside out. Over time, that trapped moisture can travel across the roof structure and cause extensive damage.

These types of failures highlight why not every roofing material is the best choice for every situation. We take pride in offering honest assessments, clear explanations, and repair plans that make sense for both your building and your budget.

If you’re unsure about your current roofing system or dealing with leaks, let Ridgeline Roofing and Solar help you find the right solution.

Hear Tim’s Thoughts

Video Transcript: "It's Tim Yates with Ridgeline Roofing and Solar. I'm here with Dave Sargent. How you doing? We're at Thirteenth Of Schieferdecker doing a roof inspection on a metal r panel roof. So this is a our panel has a, closed cell foam on it with an acrylic coating, and it's got some holes in it, and they're they're they're all over.

And what they're doing is these holes, you can see one there. You can see that. They're allowing water to penetrate this acrylic, and then it'll hold the moisture in underneath it. And it actually starts rotting the panels out because the water can't get out. So there's a couple areas right here.

You can see some rust and then rust coming out of here. So, there's a few places where they've done some hatching, trying to get some water to stop it from coming in. But you can have damage up there by the ridge cap, and you can have a leak at the bottom of your roof because it'll actually travel that far too. So we're gonna put a bid in to to do some repairs on this and go from there. Have a great day, everybody."
