In Joplin, Missouri, the Ridgeline Roofing & Solar team is giving an aging hot-applied asphalt roof a modern upgrade. We’re currently prepping the roof at Sebastian Supply for a silicone coating system, an advanced solution that offers greater durability, energy efficiency, and long-term savings over traditional hot mop installations.
The existing system is a 180 mil granulated modified cap sheet, originally installed using hot asphalt. Over time, the seams began to leak as the tar broke down and seeped out—a common issue with these older systems. To prolong the roof’s life, a fiber aluminum coating had been applied in the past. While this can add a bit of UV resistance, it’s not a waterproofing solution, and does little to prevent leaks or structural damage.
Our team is now carefully prepping the surface for silicone application, one of the leading solutions in modern commercial roofing. Silicone not only creates a seamless, waterproof membrane but also reflects UV rays, reducing heat absorption and lowering energy costs. It’s the ideal system for restoring aging flat roofs without the need for a full tear-off.
If you’re still dealing with high-maintenance hot mop systems or aging modified bitumen, it’s time to consider your options. TPO, EPDM, Silicone, and SA base & cap systems all offer better warranties, longer life spans, and improved performance in today’s roofing landscape.
Want to know which system is right for your property—and your budget? Let’s talk.

"Good morning. Tim Yates, Ridgeline Roofing and Solar. We're in Joplin today. We're at Sebastian Supply. Getting ready to put a prepping for silicone coating on this roof here.
This a one eighty mil granulated modified cap sheet that has been hot applied. And you can see where the hot the tar has actually we call it hot, has actually came out from the seam. So, you know, and it's in a lot of places. So, you know, that's how this system was originally installed. And then, apparently, they've had trouble over it or with it over the years, and they've they've put this aluminum coating on here.
And this is a dye. This is a fiber aluminum dye, and it is unfortunately, it's not a waterproofer. This will, definitely lengthen the life of your modified, but definitely will not help you with leaks. So we're going through and prepping everything right now and, getting it all ready to spray. It's got a good view from up here, of beautiful Downtown Joplin.
There it is. So we're about five stories up right here and, give you a a vision over the edge here real quick. So kind of fun. That's what we do. Anyway, you need help with your roof, residential or commercial, please give us a call.
Thank you."
